Description	American Sign Language (ASL) is a visual-spatial language used by the majority of Deaf persons in the United States and Canada. It is a complete language with its own structure, grammatical rules, and semantic expressions. ASL 1 Introduces students to the ASL language and its culture. Emphasis is placed on developing the basic language skills of communicating: expressive ("talking") and receptive ("listening") skills. Students will learn basic ASL grammar, vocabulary, fingerspelling, numbers, and cultural information related to the Deaf Community. Many colleges and universities accept ASL for their foreign language requirements. Description	ASL 3 further develops American Sign Language receptive and expressive skills. It continues the study of ASL vocabulary, sentence structure, grammar and Deaf culture. Students will develop the language skills needed to sign narratives, share facts, explain rules, describe accidents, talk about money, discuss major decisions, and tell stories. Students will also develop skills for translating written text into ASL.

Description	Experience Latin through the lives of a first century A.D. Roman family in the ancient town of Pompeii. In the Cambridge Latin Course reading approach to learning Latin, students will acquire skills in areas of grammar, vocabulary, and English derivatives, as well as come to appreciate the culture and history of ancient Rome. Many of the same activities will be used in this class as were mentioned in the middle school Latin description. This course includes basic conversational Latin in the classroom, simple stories presented in cartoon format, Latin phrases and words that appear in everyday usage (carpe diem, tempus fugit, veni, vidi, vici, et cetera, et tu, Brute?, habeas corpus, subpoena), songs and memory verses, and Roman culture (food, clothing, houses, family life, entertainment, military, religion). Latin students will have the opportunity to participate in the annual National Latin Exam in March administered by the American Classical League.

Description	This middle school level class is more than an introduction to the language. The course provides an excellent foundation for high school level courses. Students will focus on vocabulary, but they will also learn important grammar concepts from high school Spanish 1 and 2. Each chapter has an extensive vocabulary list on one topic. Students learn the language through reading, hands on activities, puzzles, projects, and speaking activities. Students become comfortable speaking and reading in Spanish, which makes high school courses easier for them. The younger a student is when he starts a foreign language the easier it is for him to learn. (For students who wish to take an advanced middle school class additional work will be provided.)

In addition to the main text, Spanish is Fun, book 1 (Amsco), students will complete a Spanish reader Mariana y sus Amigos (McClintock). The reader provides translation, listening, reading, and speaking exercises that accompany the text. Vocabulary and grammar lessons are reinforced through use of a Spanish I workbook. Students build conversation skills through the text Diga, Diga: Basic Spanish Conversations and Easy Spanish Reader. (Students purchase only the main text, workbook, and the reader, Mariana. Description	The Spanish 2 course meets the requirements of a high school Spanish 2 course. The class begins with a comprehensive review of Spanish 1 vocabulary and grammar. Students will continue with the Spanish is Fun series, book 2 (Amsco) & Spanish 2 Workbook. The reader for Spanish 2, Miguel y su Viaje, (McClintock) will provide extensive practice with vocabulary and grammar. Vocabulary instruction is enhanced through use of the Oxford Picture Dictionary (Oxford) and Exercises to Accompany the Oxford Picture Dictionary (McClintock). Description	The Spanish 3 course covers the requirements of a high school Spanish 3 course. The course is composed of the following areas of study: grammar, vocabulary, reading, culture, translating, and writing. The main text, Workbook in Spanish Three Years (Amsco) will provide the grammar and culture readings. These readings cover the history, geography, literature, art, and way of life of Spain and Latin America. Students complete the text, Momentos Hispanos, reading 20 Spanish language stories. Students will use the Oxford Picture Dictionary as well as copies from the Spanish Bible and Sopa de Pollo para el Alma (Chicken Soup for the Soul) for vocabulary and reading instruction. Honors Spanish 3 students will also complete the Spanish reader, Raquel en la Universidad (McClintock) during the year; Honors Spanish 3 please add $10 to textbook fee. The main components of the course are reading, vocab, and conversation. 2 Spanish novels will be read, mostly in class. (Regalo de Navidad, Nanea) Students will complete the text, Spanish Conversation (McGraw Hill) and selected chapters from the text Spanish Vocabulary (McGraw Hill). Additional readings will be provided from Read & Think Spanish, Sopa de Pollo para el Alma (Chicken Soup for the Soul), student writings, & the text Prosa Moderna (Amsco). In class students will use the Frequency Dictionary and the text 501 Verbs. (Students will only purchase: Regalo de Navidad, Nanea, Spanish Conversation, & Prosa Moderna. Description	Throughout the school year students will be able to use some of this time to practice and review their ongoing vocabulary and grammar lessons. They will also have time for Spanish conversation, translation, and speaking activities with students in other levels of Spanish. Each year the curriculum changes for Language Lab, with students writing and creating their own books to take home for the year. The book that each student creates is his main project for the year. Additional group projects are created in class. Here are the 4 years of instruction: 1- Geography/ Travel Vocab- Students create a book page for each of the 20 Spanish speaking countries with maps and detailed information. Their books include a section for an illustrated travel dictionary. Students work in groups to design a travel resort and present their resort to the class. Students participate in a Spanish Market, a restaurant scene, & other travel activities in class. 2- Creative Practice- Spanish- Students co-write this text with me to take home. This text provides fun and creative ways to practice Spanish in groups and individually. The 75 Spanish activities include: a scavenger hunt, logic puzzles, Bible verse activities, interpretation exercises, complete the picture pages, class polls, Origami in Spanish, and many more! Throughout the year students work in groups reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid books in Spanish. 3- Practicamos espanol (We Practice Spanish)- Students work in small groups creating a book called 'Practicamos espanol'. Students are allowed to choose their book pages from the following activities: Reading, Writing, Bible Study, Conversation, Vocab, or Grammar. Additional Spanish activities include a class treasure hunt, an Escape Room, Spanish game day, a group visual project, a How-to project with a partner, and more. 4- Places (Lugares)- This year focuses on different places and their accompanying vocab lists. (supermarket + foods for sale) The 'Lugares' book pages include labeled maps, extensive vocab lists, and activity pages for each place. Students complete activities in Vocab Packets to create the vocab section of their books. The group projects consist of creating a 3D model of a chosen location and a major writing assignment.

Biography	Fran Hall has taught all levels of Latin from elementary, middle school, to high school (Latin I-V), French I-III, and homeschooled her four children. She received a B.A. in Classics from The College of William & Mary, an M.A. in Latin from the University of Ottawa, and an M.A.T. in Latin from Boston College. She and her husband are involved in Salem Baptist Church where she teaches Sunday School classes, assists with Children's church, and participates in the annual Bethlehem Walk. In addition to reading and cooking, Fran enjoys going on mission trips and learning about French and Italian culture.
