BiographyKathy Dean attended the University of Iowa where she received a BS degree in General Science with a double emphasis: math and chemistry. She obtained my JD from the University of Illinois at Champaign Urbana. Her first 10 years of practice were as a litigator for two private firms before moving to a corporate setting as an attorney with the Chicago Board Options Exchange. After moving to Springfield, IL, she started her own practice in order to accommodate her duties as a wife, mother, and lawyer. She officially “retired” from the formal practice of law when she moved to Virginia so that she could stay home and raise her three children. Since then, she has kept busy as a volunteer and then as a supervisor for Henrico CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate), and for the last 6 years, as a Legislative Aide for Senator Steve Newman (R District 23). Her favorite class in law school was Constitutional Law. As most are aware, this document provides the foundation of our government. She is hoping to impart to the students her love of the Constitution and our founding fathers' vision for our nation so that they might have a sense of what American Exceptionalism really means particularly in view of the Creed stated in the Declaration of Independence that all men are created equal, that we are endowed with certain unalienable rights given to us by our Creator, that governments are instituted among men to secure these rights, and finally that such governments are given their just powers only by the consent of the governed.

BiographyTeresa Gary started off in the field of early childhood development. With the Dream to open a Christ-centered daycare. She decided to become a stay-at-home mom after the birth of her first child. After the birth of her third, she and her husband prayerfully chose to homeschool. All three of her children have attended Areté. She loves to volunteer with The Fix Ministry, teach teen girls through Community Bible Study, and play slow pitch softball with her family and friends.

BiographyFran Hall has taught all levels of Latin ​​​from elementary, middle school, to high school (Latin I-V), French I-III, and homeschooled her four children. She received a B.A. in Classics from The College of William & Mary, an M.A. in Latin from the University of Ottawa, and an M.A.T. in Latin from Boston College. She and her husband are involved in Salem Baptist Church where she teaches Sunday School classes, assists with Children's church, and participates in the annual Bethlehem Walk. In addition to reading and cooking, Fran enjoys going on mission trips and learning about French and Italian culture.

Biography​Anne Marie Kegley has been a homeschooling parent since 2004. In 2010, she began teaching classes at homeschool cooperatives. She has a B.B.A. in Finance from the College of William & Mary. She has been using sign language for over 35 years and serves as an interpreter at Fairmount Christian Church.

BiographySusannah Lane began homeschooling her daughters in 2007, when her oldest began struggling academically. She loves the approach homeschooling allows when teaching, as it allows students to learn in the way they can be most successful. Wanting to better understand and support children and families, she received her B.S. in Psychology from Regent University. She has always had a desire to meet others where they are and help them grow into who God created them to be, especially young people. In her free time, she enjoys reading, cross-stitching, and spending time with her family.

She began her Spanish instruction as a child living in Panama and continued with the language​​, receiving her B.A. from Bridgewater College. BiographySusan has a B.S. in Psychology and Education from Milligan College. She has recently (2011 - 2021) taught high school science at a private, Christian school in Georgia focusing mainly on Chemistry and Conceptual Physics. In January of 2022, Susan and her family relocated to her hometown of Richmond, Virginia. Susan enjoys reading and puzzles and helping students appreciate and better understand God’s beautifully designed creation.

BiographyJennifer Raub has a B.S. in Elementary Education. Mrs. Raub is the mother of four and has homeschooled since 2008. In addition to teaching her own children, she previously taught fourth and fifth graders in a public school for almost five years. She coached a LifeSmarts team for four years and was involved in 4-H for almost 11 years. When she is not busy homeschooling, she enjoys serving at church, cooking and baking, being outdoors, and making wreaths. Mrs. Raub looks forward to teaching and encouraging the students at Areté!

BiographyAfter teaching elementary school for six years, Michal became a stay-at-home mom and began homeschooling in 2003. In addition to teaching her own children a wide variety of subjects, she has taught in several homeschool co-ops, as well as a private school. ​​She has taught math on all levels up to and including Algebra 2, using materials from several different publishers. She is a life-long artist who enjoys drawing, painting, pottery, and printmaking. She enjoys teaching children of all ages and has a desire to encourage them in their spiritual and academic growth. She has a B.S. in Education from Virginia Commonwealth University.

BiographyWayne Saunders is the father of three children who were all homeschooled for part, or most, of their academic lives. He earned a BS in History/Social Sciences Education (8-12) and an M.Ed. in Learning Disabilities from Virginia Commonwealth University. Recently retired, he taught for 31 years in Hanover County public schools. He has also worked with youth as a scoutmaster and in other leadership roles within the Boy Scouts of America. Having taught writing for many years, he has developed a passion for using language in effective and creative ways and for motivating students to become better writers. He has been investing and learning about “money matters” for his entire adult life and is eager to pass his experiences on to those just beginning a lifetime of stewardship. His goal in education is to meet students where they are to help each one reach his or her fullest potential, both academically and spiritually.

BiographyAfter teaching Elementary Special Education and preschool for several years, Stephanie began homeschooling her own children in 2015. As a life-long lover of history, field trips to historical places were one of her favorite things about homeschooling! Stephanie received her bachelor’s degree in psychology along with a teacher certification from JMU and her master’s degree in special education from ODU. She enjoys volunteering at her church, Cool Spring Baptist, watching documentaries, and listening to podcasts about theology, culture, and history. Stephanie and her husband Rick have two children, Abby and Andrew.
