Biography:  Abby has a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education Interdisciplinary Studies from Liberty University. After teaching elementary school at a local private Christian school, she and her husband made the decision to homeschool their two children. Fast forward eight years later and her now, two teenagers, continue to enjoy their homeschool experience! In addition to teaching her own children, she has taught multiple age brackets and grade levels different branches of science at a local homeschool co-op. She enjoys cooking, playing board games, learning and growing in her relationship with Christ, and spending time with her family and friends.

Biography: Kathy Dean attended the University of Iowa where she received a BS degree in General Science with a double emphasis: math and chemistry. She obtained my JD from the University of Illinois at Champaign Urbana. Her first 10 years of practice were as a litigator for two private firms before moving to a corporate setting as an attorney with the Chicago Board Options Exchange. After moving to Springfield, IL, she started her own practice in order to accommodate her duties as a wife, mother, and lawyer. She officially “retired” from the formal practice of law when she moved to Virginia so that she could stay home and raise her three children. Since then, she has kept busy as a volunteer and then as a supervisor for Henrico CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate), and for the last 6 years, as a Legislative Aide for Senator Steve Newman (R District 23). Her favorite class in law school was Constitutional Law. As most are aware, this document provides the foundation of our government. She is hoping to impart to the students her love of the Constitution and our founding fathers’ vision for our nation so that they might have a sense of what American Exceptionalism really means particularly in view of the Creed stated in the Declaration of Independence that all men are created equal, that we are endowed with certain unalienable rights given to us by our Creator, that governments are instituted among men to secure these rights, and finally that such governments are given their just powers only by the consent of the governed.

Biography: Teresa Gary has homeschooled all three of her children for a total of fifteen years. She had a passion for early childhood education with a dream to open her own preschool program. Through homeschooling her own children and other sweet blessings along the way, God showed her He had a different path for her, leading her and her family to Areté in 2018. She and her husband joined the board in 2019 and they continue to serve in this capacity. Teresa began tutoring classes last year where she has enjoyed more time to build relationships with the students. As on-site facilitator for the last few years, study hall monitor, and now tutor, Teresa loves the opportunity to pour into the lives of the students. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family and dogs.

Biography: Regan Hurley has been homeschooling for 13 years. During this time she developed a passion for history. She recently graduated her twins from High School and they are headed to college. She has a BA in Psychology with English minor from Randolph-Macon College. In her free time she enjoys cooking, scrapbooking, puzzles and reading.

Biography: Amy Kobb is a veteran homeschooling parent who home-schooled her three children for 20 years. She completed a B.S. in Education at Geneva College, a private Christian college in western Pennsylvania. It is her God-given desire to help other homeschooling families in educating their children through the upper grades. She also serves on the Arete board.

Biography:  Susannah Lane began homeschooling her daughters in 2007, when her oldest began struggling academically. She loves the approach homeschooling allows when teaching, as it allows students to learn in the way they can be most successful. Wanting to better understand and support children and families, she received her B.S. in Psychology from Regent University. She has always had a desire to meet others where they are and help them grow into who God created them to be, especially young people. In her free time, she enjoys reading, cross-stitching, and spending time with her family.

Biography: Tricia McClintock has been teaching home schooled students since she began at Westminster Academy in 1994. She began her education in the Spanish language as a child living in Panama, and continued with the language, earning her B.A. at Bridgewater College.
Having joined the teaching staff at Arete in 2010, Tricia truly enjoys working with
her students and fostering a love of the Spanish language, Art, and service. Arete’s
Create & Donate Club was established in 2014 with the goal of providing a fun way for
students to serve God and others through their art and service projects. Tricia loves
focusing on creativity and fun in her Art classes. In addition to her classes at Arete
Tricia teaches Elementary Art at Fairmount and at Hanover County Parks & Rec
summer camps & additional programming. In all of her classes she encourages student
collaboration, project-based learning, and student mentorship.

Biography: Kristi Reynolds has been teaching science in homeschool co-ops since 2017.
She has homeschooled her five children from the beginning, with the three oldest
having graduated from Arete. Science is her favorite subject, and she enjoys teaching
how every aspect of science points to our perfect God. She has a Masters in Social
Work from Florida State University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from
Old Dominion University.

Biography: Michal has a B.S. in Education from VCU. After teaching elementary school for six years, she stayed home with her children and homeschooled for 13 years. In addition to teaching her own children a wide variety of subjects, she has taught in three homeschool co-ops, as well as a private school. ​​She has taught art in homeschool co-ops since 2009. She is a life-long artist who enjoys drawing, painting, pottery and block printing.She enjoys teaching children of all ages and has a desire to encourage them in their spiritual and academic growth.
